Golden, founded in 1859 during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush and named in honor of Thomas L. Golden, boasts a colorful past, most notably, that of being the original capital of the Colorado Territories.

Although Denver ultimately won the position of the state capital, the railroad competition that sparked at that time led to railway spurs, built by Golden, which connected most of what were once small silver mining towns.

This opened the way for accelerated population growth, with the added bonus of Golden quickly becoming a favored destination for tourists, as well as a gateway to the Rockies for outdoor enthusiasts.

Home to over 18,000 residents, the Colorado School of Mines, and several other educational centers, it also enjoys a thriving business community including Coors Brewing Company. Did you know Jolly Rancher candy was birthed in Golden?
